April

some few things changed this month i am not involved with the ground planet movie any more after some discussion with group member and teacher we agreed that i will focus the rest of my time helping on the development of Ikalx

environment texturing

for my texturing i mainly used photoshop and maya the process that i used to create my texture was using photograph images that i accumulated thru the years and image found on internet that i then take to photoshop where i edit them using brushes and layer modes. I exported some UV snapshot for some of the object but for most of the environment i offseted all my texture in photoshop to make them tillable and seamless and used maya UV mapping tools to apply them to the models. i will show the process in some of the videos when creating texture with multiple layers and show pics of the more simple ones

bridge texturing

 the director of the movie Ashley wanted the bridge step to have a type of glowing effect on it to create that effect i first used a mental ray dieletric material to to make the bridge look like glass and i then selected some of the faces and applied to them a surface shader and set the shader to generate a glow effect







while working on some of the textures i asked the 2 concept artist to give me some few concept art so that i can get some indication of what type of material to use for some of the object and to have a better fill of what they want there environment to look like.

those are some pics different areas of the environment showing the texturing that i done
they also include the plant and trees the only change done in terms of foliage is that i decided to not use the grass paint effect anymore it was making my files too heavy and needed a very big density to be noticeable instead i used one of the plants (the ornamental shrub) as a ground cover this allowed me to save on he poly count and allowed me to add more plant variations nevertheless power was a big issue as i sometime had to wait 30 minute for a render test having more ram would have been fantastic.
















Pyramide texturing

 the texture for the pyramid were made by the 2 concept artists they told me to chose the one that i think look better after experimenting i decided to use both. i also created a normalmap for each textures

Lac texturing

to texture the lake u used Maya ocean shader because it has animation attribute that will help make the shot more realistic those are the setting that i used

it was my first time using the ocean shader but i was very happy with the final result
